When you want to set and exact positioning of the microscope, loosen up various locking knobs, slide the bars to your desired position, and then retighten again. Place the microscope with the boom stand arm just before you. Raise the body tube by turning the coarse adjustment knob. Gently rotate the nosepiece until the objective lens get on into place. Objective lens should be set initially at low power. Look in to the eyepiece. As you do this, adjust the microscope’s diaphragm. Also, you have to adjust the mirror, in case of non-electric ones, until a bright light is seen. Take your slide and put it on the stage. Over the stage’s opening, center your specimen. To avoid movement, use stage clips so that the slide will hold in its place. From the side, glance on the stage and then carefully revolve the knob for coarse adjustment to lower down the body tube. This should be done until the low-power objective nearly approaches the slide. Look into the eyepiece. Slowly adjust the knob again until you get the best focus of your specimen. If you opt to switch to the high power objective, check the microscope from its side. Again, revolve the nosepiece gently until the lens for the high power objective get on into place. Look again through its eyepiece. Slowly revolve the fine adjustment knob until your specimen is in great focus. You can rotate the boom stand according to your required positioning.
